Default Why People Choose Hybrid

I have been trying to analyze the marketplace for hybrids and figure out better who will be buying all the current and new models coming out.

I think many people shop for hybrids because:
1. They are concerned about the environment and want to contribute to less greenhouse gases and less pollution.
2. They see gas prices going nowhere but up and want to minimize their transportation costs.
3. They need a new car and see hybrids as the coming tend so they want to be part of the trendy in-crowd.
4. They believe that a combination of better mileage, federal and state incentives, and less maintenance costs will lower their vehicle costs.
5. They like the looks and feel of hybrids and are willing to change their driving habits so they are viewed as pioneers.

I think people gravitate toward certain hybrid vehicles:
1. The Ford Escape Hybrid because it is the first SUV, can handle some 4WD circumstances, is roomy and has good utility value, is relatively cheap compared to other hybrid SUVs, and is an American product.
2. The Insight because it is light and small, they do not need a roomy car, they commute short distances, it is cheap, it has a good track record, and it has the highest MPG rating.
3. The Prius because it is a proven product, gas mileage is quite high under all conditions, it can carry four people comfortably, they are willing to be on a waiting list, it is very forgiving of bad driving habits, and they do not care that it is not the prettiest car eterior on the road.
4. The Lexus 440h because it is a luxury-status-symbol, they can afford a $50,000 car and the associated costs of insurance and ownership, they want to move six passengers, they are willing to achieve less MPG than other hybrid SUVs, and most of all they want hybrid power.
5. The Highlander Hybrid because they want a cheaper Toyota (than the Lexus) that will carry six passengers, they do not trust Ford, they are willing to wait, and they want more power than Ford.
6. The Mariner Hybrid because they think a Mercury "Escape" is better than the original despite the fact the only difference is the different shell.
7. The Honda Hybrid because they like the high mileage and the Civic history, they think running on three cylinders is cool, and they hate both Ford and Toyota.

These are just my opinions and I am sure someone thinks differently.
