Re: What is your primary vehicle?
I have a MMH and 96' c280 MB , and our primary transportation is the MMH. My MB is only used for my daily commute. All other trip, including my wife's hectic daily commute is via the hybrid because it uses less gas (23mpg MB vs 27mpg MMH - not much but helps when it all adds up). All long distant trip (about 4 times a year up/down CA coast) is with our MMH. All weekend outing is with our MMH. All shopping trip is with the MMH. When my MB dies, I will prob get the first PHEV for my commute (or EV if/when there is one). I traded in my other "real" car for the MMH.
Paying attention to fuel economy has made me drive much safer...I'm no longer a speed deamon. I'm more attuned to drivers around me (esp behind me since I start slower now for FE, whenever I know I dont affect other drivers). I slow down more gently to a stop light and signs. In neighborhoods I drive at speed limit now since I can stay in EV that way - again safer than I normally would.
I've driven in my co-worker's Prius and it seems a lot more roomier than I expected. He claim he uses his Prius for his daily commute, and more often on weekend than his minivan.
My real car is the hybrid, and I am no longer in the market for a gasoline only mode of transportation. I find that hybrids is better in efficiency in 99.9% of what I do with an automobile, and 99.9% of anything I want to do with an automobile. When something else arrives that's more efficient and fit my lifestyle, you know what I'll be buying.
