Since it's electronically controlled, that shouldn't hurt anything. I don't think the computer will let you do anything to harm it. The only thing shifting to L changes is the regenerative breaking strategy, and that's entirely computer controlled. It feels no different while accelerating until you let off the gas. I usually do it the other way, shifting from L to D while stepping on the gas and only use L to break and regen.
