Yeah, give it a little time, and as I keep saying, keep an eye on what you're doing that causes the FE needle to dip. You can't go 15 miles at 28 mpg without a fair chunk of low-mileage driving (or worse, idling!) to drag it down. So see what you're doing when you're getting mileage that will make it tough to do well. I think mapping out your route is probably excessive, that's something you can start looking into once you've got the basics down, but definitely keep a very light foot on the pedals, cruise control on the highway, coast when you can, to recharge the battery (and allow you to go further without using up gas), try to keep it in EV mode for reasonable stretches, as long as you don't let it use up all the juice so you kick back into idling mode.... It takes a little getting used to, and if you're living somewhere that's tough for high mileage anyway, it might not be as easy to pull the higher FEs. But people who are getting 45 regularly year-round live in warm climates, and.. well I see different things about terrain and driving patterns, but here I'm getting good mileage lately by cruising through some local towns instead of using the interstates, so I can mostly drive around 40 miles per hour or less. Lets me slip between coasting and giving it a little boost easily.

And don't forget nash's advice about putting into full hybrid mode, that's saving me some frustration. Hate when the car's warm and won't stop idling!
