Re: Ford sees plug-in hybrids in 5-10 years
If we are looking to Ford to Lead in anything we are wasting our time. Ford is still dead, Their high, legacy costs and a very long history of no leadership has doomed them to the has beens they are. The days of a true research leader, Dale Compton, are gone (NO I didn't work for Fords and no bones to pick) The technology is available, Ford is good at buying companies buy the guys that have the paten on the only so called great LI battery, The plug was availavle over a decade ago, Oh I forgot it takes 10 years for Ford to introduce a "NEW" technology thru the stream and onto the road. Sounds like getting anew medicine approved. Bet you can get a Ceo in that time or maybe more and also a huge salary approved.
They never in the last 15 years:
1. Did the research they should have,
2. They let their Sodium sulfur battery die.
3. They blindly did nothing, nothing to develop diesels for cars,
4. They constantly said "Safety doesn't sell"
5. Insufficient investment for infrastructure, could not even modernize while they watched Toyota and others build new plants fro scratch.
6. Wasted their profit from the first Taurus and let some sill redesign it into the oval loser requiring a retool to escape total disaster.
7. Overpay top management.
8. Lack ..........
Get the idea Ford is dead! Just because some Li batteries overheated that doesn't mean Ford is doing something to give their failing company relief.
If the batteries are too small it is not cancer reaserch to make larger cell they have been made by other, (probably the guys that will lead the way and make money)
They may have one last chance to do something to save their company, Where is their VOLT? Do something Ford beside being Arrogant and tell the world that your are really "Doing great Thank you very much" and then go stick their head back in the sand or someplace. I want what was once at least an OK company that made good trucks and popular SUV's, to be something that America can be proud of and it not owning Jag or Volvo it DOING SOMETHING on their own, not admitting they can't and have to buy someone else to do it. Running around and saying Well maybe in 10 years if someone else does it and we can get it cheap and and and.... Not doing the job. Ford will being lucky to be Ford in 10 years.
I would be very, very happy if Ford got it's act together and didn't end up like Chrysler, sucked up, chewed on, and spit out for tasting bad.
I had a Bunkie Knewson T bird, the original Taurus, even an Escort and a Pinto, and Cougar other than the T Bird they all were stinkers, but if they really pulled something off that was well rounded and had some decent assembly and quality materials, I would give them another chance, only one.
I have owned different 26 cars so far and only the VW Phaeton was Impressive. So I know I am not an easy sell but I have also owned 4 Nissan's and have been coming back for more.
COME ON, FORD DO SOMETHING GOOD make me proud, you are an American Company
