Agreed - it's a two step process. I would still argue that it is a defect that should be taken care of under warranty.
Could this be more of a regional thing? I live in MN and I can't recall having this type of issue on any car that I've ever owned. Maybe in climates where the A/C demand is higher and it's used more?
