Default Re: old topic (trunk lid found open)

The trunk-release button on the remote (smart key) fob is not inset. It is easy to press that button unintentionally, even while the key fob is in your pocket. The remote has enough range that you can unlock your doors or open your trunk from inside your house.

I doubt they will recall the smart key fobs to replace them with new fobs.

It is possible to secure the trunk lid using the brass key. They call that a luggage security feature. See page 54 in the 2008 owners manual. If you do that, however, the only way to open the trunk is with the brass key. That can be inconvenient.

Probably the best thing to do is just to be aware that the buttons on the remote can work from inside the house, and refrain from pushing them when you don't want to open the car. If you are worried, you might want to put a piece of tape, or some other cover, over the trunk-release button to prevent accidents.

Maybe someone will make a neoprene or leather case for this key fob, with some extra protection for that button.
