Re: Vue GL right for us?
Glad to see you are doing your due dilligence. Knowing what your commute and driving will be like goes a big way in deciding which Hybrid is right for you. The 2007 Saturn Vue Hybrid does great on Highway mileage and longer commutes. Not so on shorter commutes. If you can pay the extra $7000 for the Ford Escape Hybrid - it sounds like it would do you well. However, if you can test out a 2008 Hybrid Vue - it uses a similar setup to the Escape and the mpgs are closer. (No one to date has any clear real world mpgs on the 2008.)
For my situation - the extra $7000 for 3-5 mpgs better put the breakeven point too far down the road. In addition, I was happy with my previous Saturn SL2 so Saturn was the answer for me. Besides it was in the $25,000 range instead of the Ford Escape $32,000 or Toyota Highlander $38,000 or Mecury Mariner $35,000.
There are a few of us who are on the topside side of 27mpg - Big Cat Daddy - Dundertaker - 07GLowner2 and Phil94. I push a lifetime average of 31.9mpg and in the warmer months I am well over 33mpgs.
I am very happy with my decision and I think I get the most out of my 2007 Saturn Hybrid Vue.
Best wishes in making an informed decision.
