Here is the full description of the "4WD" system on the 05/06/07 and probably 08 MYs. Still scratching my head as to how rain causes differences in wheel speed - without some aggressive throttle - enough for the computer to decide to send torque to the rear. Ice, snow, loose rock, yeah - but rain at moderate cruising speeds, oh well, if you say so.
