and maybe YOUR JOB

We need to develop our untapped oil NOW, plus nuclear, coal and other sources on our way to a cleaner future. Otherwise we will bow to the PEOPLES REPUBLIC of China. They will find the energy they need regardless of the environment. We on the other hand do a much cleaner job of energy use and are the ones that innovate the new technologies.
I assume you mean higher "oil/gas/diesel" prices. There is no question that sudden price changes will be a shock and will take some time to get adjusted to. Your outlook is a bit over negative, however. High prices will demand better efficiency, which is a good thing. Yeah it might take an extra day or two for your internet purchase to arrive but a more efficient fleet is a good thing and may even spur the job market as truckers/people purchase newer more efficient vehicles. Old inefficient junk is going to end up in a scrap heap, replaced by more modern, more efficient transportation. Someone has to make all the new hybrid trucks, right? Someone's gotta put the windmills up and maintain them (actually there is a huge shortage of trained techs, if you are looking for a job), right?

A change is coming but I'm not convinced that it is for the worse.
