Re: How to check ODB error codes in 07 HiHy? CEL came and went
I own an HCH2, so...
First of all, tell your Toyota dealer to pound sand. They can hook up their fancy ODB reader and check it for you in about 2 minutes. It should be free, not $99. Or Autozone can do it - likely for free.
If the light went out, the code could already be cleared. I've had that happen before, on several vehicles. Only if the light is on does it have a code, for sure. Some codes stick around for a short time, some stick around until cleared, some are gone as soon as the anomaly is clear.
MY hookup is under the dash near the center console (I think). That's where MANY other vehicles have their hookup.
I'd take it up to Autozone. Around here (Dallas, TX), they'll check it for FREE. No rental.
I own an ODB reader, as well. Handy occasionally.
If the ODB reader shows nothing, don't be surprised.
The NEXT time (if there is a next time), drive straight to your nearest dealer or Autozone and get it checked out, preferably while the CEL is still lit. Or carry an ODB reader with you.
