Remember - electric assist is in general an inefficient power source. So accelerating with maximum assist is not the right thing to do - it has to be made up later. Now if you are getting ready to go down a long hill then it is not a bad idea - but most of the time it is. That is why (I think) that CC will not use much assist when going up a hill - it revs the engine more. I assume that Honda knew what they were doing.

There is a chart - on another site - that gives average mpg on the HCHII at different speeds with and without CC. It is an eye opener - like 90 mpg at 40 miles per hour.
