Just bought our first set of new Michelin Weatherwise II tires and would like to know more about this subject since I've noticed slower acceleration but a smoother ride than the factory tires. I would think lighter wheels with the same wheel/tire OEM configuration would improve FE as well as looks . As for my next set of wheels and tires, I would definitely look into some aftermarket rims. Perhaps when I hit the 100k mark probably in like 5 years at the rate my Wife and I are going (we share the car as I ride a motobike )
