Hi, all!
Heh, drafting is also well-known to us swimmers. A few years ago, I competed in a 1500 M freestyle in a Masters Swimming meet in Indiana. I couldn't shake the person in the lane next to me....they were swimming next to the lane marker....right next to my own lane, and I was in the middle of my lane.
When I sped up, they sped up too. When I slowed down, so would he. After the first third of the race, I decided to test my theory by swimming next to the lane marker away from the other swimmer (nobody was in the other lane adjacent to me in that race).
Almost immediately, he dropped back, and I eventually went on to beat him. My draft was apparently a really big help to him.
I do think the effects of drafting are significant.
