Check FUel Cap and Service emission Systems
Dear Friends
I still have the problem for check fuel cap and service emissions system.
I have not been able to figure out why this problem is reappearing, I delete the error codes and the check fuel cap message comes back one week later and during that same day the service emissions systems comes back.
What part comforms the emissions systems, I think that both errors are related and may lead to a single component problem that is causing both. My mpg is 30 mpg with mixed driving, 5 days in city and 2 in higway. In very rare ocasions I smell gas outside the vehicle when I turn off the engine, during the last month I have not smelled it.
I do not know if all this problem has an impact in my mpg or not.
I was reading about the KAM memory and I am thinking to disconnect the battery and see if I get better mpg with the computer not knowing the problem( the errors are erased) and also with the KAM as factory default.
Regards

Re: Check FUel Cap and Service emission Systems
I got the "Service Emission System" error just once. When I replaced the small filter in the back of the vehicle on the drivers side. The code went away. I don't know if this helps but check this filter. I should be replaced at least one a year.

It is called the Battery Air Filter. Here is a link at Amazon...

Here is a link to a discussion herr about filters...

It is easy to find in your Escape Hybrid... Open the rear hatch. On the drivers side just under the window is a small rectangular plastic door. Remove it and you will see a filter that is about 1inch high and about 6 inches long. Just pull it out and you will see if it is dirty.

Re: Check FUel Cap and Service emission Systems
Thanks for the answer.
THe filter is new, and the problem persist, according to the mechanics OBD II it reads for a massive loss in the emissions system , like a leak, does anybody knows what parts integrates the emissions system? I know that the cathalytic converter that goes down the car, but what other parts are related and where are them located.

Re: Check FUel Cap and Service emission Systems
Did you actually replace the fuel tank cap yet? It is only a $20 part and is easy to replace. A new one helped me clear error codes. The Ford Motorcraft part number is FC1060 here in the US.

Re: Check FUel Cap and Service emission Systems
Toyotas throw codes when the gas cap isn't tightened properly and would take a couple days to clear. If your gas cap is defective you might have the same problem.
