If they are worried about not getting enough tax from the sale of fuel, why not use a percent instead of a static amount? There are numerous ways to deal with it, but seriously, this has got to be one of the stupidest kind of proposals put forward. Why not tax giant SUVs that cause more wear on the roads?

Putting a percent tax was another option they were talking about on the news. But if it were a straight line percent the government would make more money as the price of gas went up, because the cost of fuel for road repair is not the only cost.
