The development of the first production Prius is detailed in the free book: "The Prius That Shook the World", written by Hideshi Itazaki. It is available from Toyota marketing with minimal shipping. Toyota even mailed my copy via US postal service, 'Priority Mail'. The book subtitle is "How Toyota Developed the World's First Mass-Production Hybrid Vehicle".
