I don't think this design trend is coming from the look of the SUV or is trying to reflect the SUV styling.
The higher body build, with smaller windows is designed to give a tough appearance - like the old muscle cars, usually with chopped tops. The wheels go along those same lines -like the old fatties. I actually read this in some car mag about 2 years ago. The consumers this car is aimed toward are those in the age category that worshipped the old Barracudas, Dusters, Chevelles...etc. I like the look - it looks tough, mean, and like you are getting more car for the money.
But heck, it's late at night...it could be something completely different...
