Default Re: To EV or not to EV that is the question

Any EVs with lithium packs are going to be "toy cars" at this point, just proofs of concept because the battery is not being mass-manufactured, hence expensive as hell. The fact that they work without exploding seems to be plenty proof that they can be used in an EV, and Mitsubishi seems to think they will work in their EVs.

The sad thing is that EVs should have started to penetrate the market in the 70's when the US hit peak oil and discovered that it was addicted to imports from places that didn't agree with it's foreign policy. Unfortunately deals were made with the Saudis: "we keep you in power by training your thugs and supplying you with military hardware for dumping all the oil we want into the market"... Seemed like a great deal, but it really just delayed the inevitable. If we started seriously working on EVs in the 70's by now we would have made all sorts of incredible advancements in battery technology, perhaps even surpassing the range and performance of any ICE.
