Re: Prius LED Brake lights
I believe the 06 HCH has LED lights for the center brake light. Many higher end lux. cars are using them in brake lights because of their clarity and long life. The downside is that they have a higher up-front cost, and it isn't worth it for most auto applications since the consumer usually can't tell the difference. I'm an Architect and would like to use LED technology more often in buildings, but the price is still to high for most applications. It is coming down though. According to light reps that I work with Blue is the most expensive, then red, then yellow and white.
Interestingly, companies like GE make a lot of money selling light bulbs and have a strong lobby.... I suspect this could slow down the adaptation of LED a bit as well.
They are perfect for signage applications, but they are slow to catch on there, because sign makers make much of their profits serviceing high maintenance neon lights.
