The mention of driver speed and type of vehicle is insurance-related, as it determines rates.

Suggesting starting a forum does not exactly sound "personal" - it's recommending the high road.

Honda covers the battery pack in the event it fails prematurely. The insurance company would cover the IMA unit most likely if there was a substantial collision.

I was in a significant head-on collision in early 2003, but the IMA was unaffected. The bumper molding and chassis had to be replaced, however. An impact that affects the IMA unit itself must be severe, as it's attached to the ICE like a Siamese twin. The airbag almost certainly would have to deploy in such an instance. While the other guy was held responsible, if I had been going the speed limit or hypermiling, the collision would have been avoided.
