I've had my Insight since Sept 2000. From March 2001 thru Jan 2003 - I was in four collisions - all of them blamed on the other guy:
- Sleepy neighbor parked on the wrong side pulls out without paying attention - avoidable by non-aggressive start
- Rear-ended in dawn traffic - a more gradual stop could have avoided it
- Guy turned before traffic was clear - again it could have been avoided by not speeding
- Rear-ended at intersection - This should have been the only collision - I could do nothing to avoid it.
I've slowed to about 60mph or less from about 75mph - no more collisions. Again, I was not at fault by the insurance companies, but why beat up the car? The Insight has held up well considering the collision history (obviously not proud of it).
My experience tells me hypermiling has avoided collisions and tickets.
