Default Re: Insight observed in snowy conditions

I drove my MT Insight on an inch or so of solid, warm ice about a month ago. When I left, our roads were clean and dry, but 40 miles South, the conditions went from two tracks to spots of ice to solid ice, I felt the traction decreasing. To avoid the possibility of getting involved in a multicar pileup, I went around a group of about 5 cars stacked up behind someone going less than 10 miles per hour. I was doing okay at about 20 MPH, but felt the rear start to swing and slowed to under 15 MPH. It didn't help much. Ultimately the rear came unglued and swung around front. I ended up doing a 270 and stopping in the oncoming lane. There was no other traffic, so I just drove away. I had low rolling resistance tires inflated to over 40 PSI, which I guess could be considered the equivalent of roller skates on ice. After that I revised my plan and parked it as soon as possible.
