Prius (60/51)vs Matrix(28/34) vs Corolla(30/38)
Martinjlm: here are some EPA and CR numbers
EPA CR
PRIUS-60/51 35/50 150 MILE TRIP 48
Matrix-28/34 19/36 150 MILE TRIP 33
Escape AWD-V6-19/23 12/27 22
Escape AWD HYBRID 33/29 22/29 30-odd
Civic -auto-30/40 18/43 34
Civic Hybrid 49/51 26/47 45
Corolla-Auto- 30/38 20/39 35
I put the Matrix in the mix because it is a very good match with the Prius-size-interior volume-wt-accel.The Corolla is the usual vehicle the Prius is compared to; the Matrix is a much better match.CR shows the Prius going 84% farther per city gallon, and 39% farther per hy gallon.CR Prius vs Corolla is 75% and 28%.EPA Prius VS Corolla is 60/30 (100% farther)and 51/38(38% farther).
I prefer CRs city numbers to the EPA's because they fit what my wife and son get with our vehicles in our very "harsh" city loop with lots of very short trips(most trips under 3 miles, and under 10 minutes-the AC blasts 11 months a year). My wife and son are typical drivers(members of this forum aren't). They don't drive fast, but they are strictly accelerator/brake drivers. They never anticipate and coast.Their city mpg with the Pilot is 13 mpg(4400 v6 awd). With very little effort I get 17 mpg.Same story 2001 Prizm-22 vs 26 mpg and the 2006 Prius 38 vs 47.
