Good to know about the oxidation. I've had rear window defrosters before but nothing quite as elaborate as the one in the FEH's liftgate window, so I admit this is a little new to me. I'll still post a photo for reference as mine seems pretty darn colorful given its (limited) age and (total) lack of use thus far.

As for the black paint flaking issue, my FEH's due for a full wash and interior detailing so I'll see if maybe what I'm viewing as the black paint flaking off is perhaps just dirt/grit that isn't coming off with my unscientific (wet finger, to be honest) "it doesn't clean off, it must be permanent" diagnosis method. I rubbed good and it didn't behave like hard water deposits, but then again neither did the deposits on the roof of my FEH until I took some Maguire's NXT Quick Detailer to it and put a little elbow grease behind it.

That said, I think I'll bite the bullet and schedule my first service call. I need that little rubber bumper in the lift gate replaced as well as one of the flanged "screws" that are used to hold the windshield/under hood cowling on above the cabin air filter (figures -- all the ones I had to remove stayed in place; one on the other side, which I didn't touch at all, mysteriously popped off/went missing a week or so ago!) I also need my driver's seatbelt adjusted as it locks too quickly/easily, making it difficult to put on without several tries, in fact. Nothing major at all, so I'd been thinking of waiting til my 5k service call (tire rotation), but it can't hurt to establish a relationship with my Ford service dept. a little early I guess... they'll either love me or hate me for having such minor issues to address.
