In CA the HCH is being jacked up.You can still buy them at and under MSRP at various dealers in OK,OH,ARK, etc.
Consider a Corolla. Carson Toyota has an LE auto with side side curtains for $15,500. It gets Civic mpg, and has a slightly higher driving position; it is easier to get in and out of also.
I would also consider an Accord. According to CR it is only 2mpg less-city-than a Civic, and it is more comfortable, more trip worthy.CR gets 38mpg -HY- with an auto 4 cyl Accord.It would be a great trip vehicle for 2-4 people.You can buy the VP Accord for $17500.(Same as a Civic in some places-safer also) Luck,Charlie
