This dont change the oil too early is the same kind of nonsense as people who think they can feel a difference between differant brands of gasoline or think it's bad to put synthetic oil in a motor "too soon" (ignoring that fact that tons of cars come with synthetic straight from the factory).
According the the HCHII manual, there are only 3 things that need to be done as part of the break-in schedule. They are:
  1. Avoid full-throttle starts and rapid acceleration.<
  2. Do not change the oil until the scheduled maintenance time.<
  3. Avoid hard braking for the first 200 miles. <
You say #2 is not important. I say, why did they even bother including it? It's not like they have a complex list of break-in recommendations.

I am not saying it will make a huge difference, but I'm sure there are also many people who could say "I did full-throttle starts from the day I got my car and she's still runnin' like a champ." Does this mean that we should ignore #1 as well? If you want to ignore Honda's recommended break-in schedule and instead go by your own "instinct", that is fine.

For me, I'll switch to Mobil 1 after the scheduled maintenance time for the first oil change.
