While driving near Yuma, AZ (sand dune area) the PRIUS topped out at
108 miles per hour (restricted/limited. Seamed like it could have gone faster
but just would'nt).
NOTE: THESE SEATS SUCK! (more directly - the drivers side right
thigh bolster cuts off circulation very badly!). I'm 5'11" and 202
lbs. - so not to far "out of the norm" so no flaming please!

Sounds like a great trip! Can't wait to take a long one in mine. I have only done a couple of 2-300 milers so far.
On the speed - the max speed is limited by the maximum speed of MG2 (I think that is the one) that is connected to the ring gear and therefore directly to the wheels. This motor cannot spin faster than some value - I am not sure what that value is.
So - although the car is not limited for physical speed reasons, it is for "mechanical" reasons. Here's hoping that the next generation can spin this little motor a bit faster!
And I agree completely with the seat commentary. I would add that they are a bit too high as well. I pull up to a light and have to bend all sorts of ways to see when it changes. Bloody shame not to have height control on them.
