Because you have an '05, it automatically DOES NOT fall into the VIN range. The VIN range is actually the whole 17 digit number; it was only shortened to the last few numbers above to save space... So even though your last few numbers may have matched up, the first few automatically eliminates you.

From the sounds of things, the firmware update may only bring the data values up to the specs of the '05. So in essence, the '05 may BE the update. However, one member reported the car coasting more often when letting up on the throttle, instead of recharging. So the '05 would benefit from this 'adjustment' as well. Who knows. Perhaps us '05 owners need to pester Honda about it and see if they come up with an update for us too.
