Personally it's not a big deal leaving it unplugged for a week at a time, or more, then plugging it in for a few hours to (fully) recharge it. I just have a Nano though; maybe the regular one's more power-hungry.

I am using the aux input for an aftermarket XM radio, so unplugging the power isn't an option (it doesn't run on batteries). It really does work.
