I am in Houston, so my temps are always mild compared to much of the rest of the country. The first 2-5 miles of my commute, I am doing good to get 20-25 MPG. After that the mileage starts to skyrocket.

If I were in your shoes, and I was getting 29 MPG on that same commute, I would stick with the HAH. Heck, If I had that kind of commute, I would have probably gotten a 4runner, as the small number of miles driven will not change the fuel budget that much.
