So I've been driving my FEH for the past week and what I've noticed most so far in daily driving is that it takes a long time to be able to go EV. I have a Scangauge and I had that set to CHT and I now believe there might be a thermostat problem after monitoring that the past few days.

The CHT will get to about 170 fairly quickly, and then anything above that takes much longer. For instance, I was able to cruise down the highway this morning on my way to work at about 60 MPH and the CHT would barely get to 180 and only go higher when I was accelerating. I finally got it above 190 to allow EV after traffic slowed and then sped up again and I gave it some more gas to try and get it up to temperature. I have a 30 mile commute and for the rest of my drive it never once got close to 200.

My question is how normal is this? If there is a problem can I replace just the thermostat or only the entire housing? How much for it and where is the best place to order the part?

My A/C Compressor clutch froze so I replaced the A/C unit (broke the clutch bold so just replaced the whole unit)...I put everything back together and all was good in the world..

One day while going down the road I heard something weird but didnt think much of it but then noticed my water temp going up...

I stopped and looked under the hood and found that the tention pully had fallen off..im guessing I over looked tightening it down properly...my fault..

Needing to get it off the road since I was on a busy Highway I drove it less than a half a mile...during that short amount of drive I started having more proplems my engine light came on the IMA light came and the IMA batterys started to die at a rapid pace...It almost appeared or seemed that the motor was running solely on the electric motor...

once I got it to a resonable safe area I stopped and called for a tow..

The car wont start and I have no battery power for the electric motor..

I am at a loss as to what has happened what is wrong...am I looking at a motor replacement or is it something like a simple timing issue? I am at a loss and any advise will be helpful....so please anybody help...

I typically get around 28 combined for my commute plus around town driving and around 33-35 if on a road trip, with an average speed of 70.

This past weekend I filled up in Bayville, NJ and drove to Manchester, CT (198.5 miles) and averaged 40.7 (41.6 on the dash) MPG.... I was amazed. My average speed was much slower though, probably around 55-65 mph (i was in no hurry, it was very late).

I've attached a couple photos.... Just wanted to share because I thought that this was literally not possible!

Looks like 3rd of June will be a red-letter day for electric motorcycles. Not only are we to have our hearts unbroken by Mission Motors, but it is also the exact same day that another of our two-wheeled favorites will ride into the spotlight. Moto Electra Racing has announced it will begin a journey from coast to coast with its Norton-styled retro-electro machine in a bid to make the record books for the quickest continental crossing by an electric vehicle.
The team will set out from Florida and drive to Santa Monica in about 3 days, with an estimated 20 stops for charging and cat-napping.

Inspired by a film about the first gas-powered automobile cross-country trip in 1903 - a time before gas stations and, for the most part, paved roads - the team plans to set out from the beach in Jacksonville, Florida and quietly hum their way to the Santa Monica Pier in California in about 3 days. That's about 2,500 miles along Interstate 10 at, or slightly below, the 70 mile-per-hour speed limit with an estimated 20 stops for charging and cat-napping.

In the saddle will be team stalwart Thad Wolff. The former AMA Superbike racer has lots of experience with the bike, having raced it in the TTXGP and claiming 2nd place overall in the North American 2011 season. He will be supported by team principal Brian Richardson and a group of students from James Madison University who will bring along a portable generator. The general strategy is to ride for two hours, then charge for one, being careful not to tax the batteries.

The bike itself is one sweet piece of work. Built around the famous Norton featherbed design, it is powered by an air-cooled AC motor and holds a battery pack which, while somewhat old, still holds an amazing 19 or 20 kilowatt-hours of energy (most comercially-available electric motorcycles offer about half that capacity, it's more than the 16.5-kWh in the Chevy Volt). While copies are not yet officially offered for sale, the team hinted in an email that it may be a possibility in the future

But now with warmer weather (not hot by any means, high today was only around 70) I am being unable to go EV if I have been (city) driving for any length of time and have warmed up the HV battery. Depending which Scangauge xgauge I use (BTM or Tav), when I get above about 88-89 degrees I can't go EV. And I'm not talking much hotter than that. Today it only reach a ax of like 91.6 and I never got into EV for the half hour after that while on the road before getting home.
FYI, I have a nice clean HV battery duct filter in place.
My questions are:
- Should the HV battery be warming up that much on a 70 degree day in city driving with normal amounts of EV/non-EV cycling?
- At what HV battery temp should I expect it to not go EV? (I'm seeing this happens, as I said, at around 88-89 degrees)
- At what temp will active (A/C) battery cooling take place?
- How long should it take to cool it back down so it will go EV again?

So there's one or two minor problems with the car, one of which is bothering more than the other: The info display underneath the tachometer is barely functioning. It's not completely off, but very very dim. Here is a photo:

The automotive industry is getting more evidence that it's time to expand product offerings or switch over to another business. A new study by the US Public Interest Research Group (PIRG) says the "driving boom" is over. While Baby Boomers loved their cars, their kids - aka Gen Y or Millennials - have different idea.
From 2004 until 2012, the total miles traveled remained about the same, but the amount, per capita, decreased by one percent each year.

The numbers tell the story, and the total miles driven, per capita, in the US has been declining. While gasoline price spikes and the Great Recession play a role, the numbers have been dropping gradually since 2004. That marks the end of a 40-year driving boom that started up in 1964, according to the PIRG report. The number of miles driven by Americans increased each year an average of 2.5 percent per capita and 3.8 percent total during that time. From 2004 until 2012, the total miles traveled remained about the same, but the amount, per capita, decreased by one percent each year.

Urbanization appears to be causing some of the trend, and use of mass transit and carsharing has been increasing. On top of that, boomers are aging and will be driving less and Millenials don't like to drive as much. Automaker executives have been voicing concern that young people are much less interested in driving and owning cars then their predecessors. It's tough to know for sure how many plug-in vehicles have been sold throughout the US, but if anyone has been keeping count, it's the fine folks at Plug In America. And, according to them, somewhere in America this weekend, maybe, someone will buy the 100,000th electric car. PIA says it expects the "historic milestone" to happen by Monday, May 20, 2013.

This isn't counting golf carts or GEMs or any of the old-school EVs, things like the EV1 or the first-generation RAV4 EVs. No, PIA is only tracking vehicles like the Nissan Leaf, Chevy Volt and Tesla Model S that have come along in the last two years or so. We know Nissan has sold over 25,000 Leafs in the US and the Volt has sold more than 36,000 as of the end of April. That leaves 40,000 more from the likes of Tesla, Fisker, Ford and all the others we write about all day. Have not posted in awhile. Thought I would update on my Camry 2007 Hybrid with 78,000 miles.

My warranty expires soon. I have had the Water Pump replaced (Leaking Badly) and the Intermediate Steering Shaft replaced (Sounded like the steering wheel popping when turning). I also had the Rack/Pinion Recall done). Bought policy 7/100,000 and it was worth if for my peace of mind. Bought for $880. All done on platinum warranty except the rack job.

So far, Camry has been a great car. On the other hand, the freaking rattling on the dash, the foam squeaking on the shift/cup console, and the rear deck has made me less interested in buying another Camry.
