I was driving in my work parking lot yesterday after a freeway commute. I was in EV mode at about 15mph when my steering seemed to "lock". I gave it some extra force and it returned to normal. First time I've had this happen. Anyone else experience anything like this?

Hello everyone
I have a new 2010 FEH and a scangaugeII .One thing is bothering me:
When I am stopped at a light or a stop the scangauge or the instant economy is at 9999 or HIGH .As soon as the car start moving it goes down to 0.0 or LOW. Same coming to a stop it shows 0 until the car comes to a stop then it goes up to 9999.

Is there something I am missing in the set up?

Just curious who is using Mobil 0-W20 in the forum? I saw they have it at Walmart for the 5QT for $22 right now and am looking to switch my 08 Escape Hybrid to Full Synthetic.

My Mother in law's escape is in bad need of new rotors and brakes, and i'm having a terrible time finding any kind of service manual. I'm pretty familiar with other fords; f250s, aerostars, etc...

Is there anything i should know about the escape before i attempt to change her rotors? I've heard rumors about having to pull fuses and the like in some hybrids before servicing brakes. So anything special i should know, Or is the brake system not so different from other fords?

I am so excited. My Escape is early. Supposed to be here next week. Now I can stop bugging my wife to drive her new Fusion.

First thing we did our first FEH was install an activated carbon cabin air filter. My wife has MCS and could not chance contaminated outside air getting in. We also use a carbon air filter plugged into the AC socket inside the car. Very convenient that it is turned on/off with the key BTW.

Now I am looking for a way to filter the recirculating AC/Heater system. Anyone know if there is a place for one, or where should I look for the air inlet for the recirculating system?

Is this an item that is not covered under warranty of any kind??

My 06 FEH has been dieing on me & I took it to a local Ford dealer.

They just called me & it needs close to $1000.00 worth of work to replace the coolant pump & do this harness recall thing (they told me I have to pay for that also).

I have 56,000 miles on the truck & any gas savings I might have realized have long ago disappeared from repair costs & the original premium for buying the POS.

I will never buy a hybrid again even though I love driving the thing.

a few negatives:

-noise coming from "blend door" vent (?) /middle dash area is MADDENING

-a/c stopped blowing cold after a few thousand miles (minor prob...quickly fixed)

-Nav/iPhone/sync/hard drive probs:
When iphone is removed from USB (EVERY time I leave the car) and reattached via USB, sync takes about an hour to "index" all 6650 songs from my iPhone, basically "RE-indexing" even though there has been no change to the contents.
It's dumb.

-Another MAJOR nuisance?
The only way to input songs into my "jukebox" is via cd (which is DUMB).
I should be able to input songs to jukebox via cd's OR via usb from iPhone
No dice.

when I "input" songs to "jukebox" via burned cd's (which is a time consuming process)..."gracenote" recognizes NONE of the tracks so none of inputted songs on jukebox have a "track name" or "artist name"

all together?
these things are really pissing me off
Aside from that I like the major aspects of FEH & gas mileage but these glitches are a real P.I.T.A.

Yikes, I actually saw 11. 9 SOC on my scanguage this AM after backing out of my garage and short driveway into the alleyway. I stopped the vehicle to pull my phone camera out and my car died on the spot with the stop safety message. After fumbling in the dark with my phone camera for a minute or so, I managed to restart the vehicle without an issue and took a few photos :

Don't ask me how this was possible? I drove up my SOC to 41 within 3/4 of a mile where I stopped at the YMCA for an early workout.

I'm looking for a black rubber cargo mat for my 2006 FEH. Most of the mats I have found listed online do not list FEH, but they do list Ford Escape. Will a molded cargo mat for an Escape fit an Escape Hybrid, or does the footprint differ enough that it will be a problem?

I test drove a new 2010 FEH and a FFH for the first time today. After the initial start, the RPM's on the FEH were about 1500 during warm up, then after a min or so, it settled down. I have never seen a vehicle rev that high for a warm up. Is this normal?

I recently started after a cold soak.
I immediately needed to back 1/4 mile, in reverse, slightly uphill to get out of a narrow driveway.

During this time, all "movement" of the car was from battery power.
Without watching the SG ( my eyes were on the rear of course, my SOC dropped to the typical 33% during a cold start.

Then, what got my attention........
I was in reverse, with foot on the brake, pretty much stopped, if not totally stationary at the time... VaaaROOOOOOM!!!! Engine speed started to race to 2200 RPM with foot on the brake. Battery assist ceased at exactly 33% SOC. To finish backing the last little bit, the engine raced even higher with the slightest touch of the go pedal. To confirm my hunch... I got saftly on level ground, and just paused... keeping the car in R position, but not moving.
And neither did the SOC. It stayed parked at 33% or 32.9%. Not climbing at all until I put the car in drive. Then charging started in earnest. Then I moved the position to R again, and charging ceased again.

Not only did assist cease, but, it seemed, so did the engine idle.

Not a biggie... just an observation I hadn't heard discussed before.

I have a 2005 FEH; I love this car. It it currently non-operational, and I wanted to see if anyone had any ideas.

Tongiht after driving for about 30 minutes, I shut it off and got some things from the cargo area. Upon closing the rear hatch I heard a loud click (location undetermined) and realized the car wasn't locking by the key remote.

Troubleshooting steps:

- I opened the door again and could hear a rapid clicking noise from under the dash. The interior lights did not come on. I tried started the car, and the battery light came on the dash. It did not start.

- Went through the manual and confirmed the power and fuel shutoffs were not a problem.

- I found a post on these forums suggesting a dead HV battery. Pushed the LV-to-HV jump button, and after 7-10 seconds the light went from steady green to a slow flash, and then out after 60-90 seconds.

- Tried jumping the LV battery. Left the leads connected for 10 minutes and then tried starting again. No luck. Tried the LV-HV jumping again (same behavior, slow flash after 7-10 seconds), and this time the interior lights came on, but it would not start.

From that point on, the yellow flashers and headlights have been flashing dimly at a very high rate, and the clicking noise under the dash has remained.

I have disconnected the negative lead on the battery which stopped all clicking/flashing, and have given up for the night.

Before I have it towed tomorrow, any ideas?

If Ford can adapt all those new "TwinForce" engines to DFI then why not the FEH/MMH..?? And have the engine transition from Otto mode into Atkinson cycle mode as engine load/loading rises just as Toyota is doing with the new Prius/HH/RXh generation HSD.

Get a step, BIG step, ahead of Toyota for a change.

Static/native compression ratio of 15:1 for Otto mode effectively reduce, extended VVT-i, to 12:1 for Atkinson mode.

20-30% more HP/torque.... or reduce the engine displacement for 20-30% FE improvement.

So, which might it be, "TwinForce", HP rise, or EcoTech, FE rise..??

My wife called me a work the other day and said she couldn't turn the key to start our 2009 FEH. (3,500 miles)

I had her turn the key 180 degrees, jiggle it, etc. to no avail. Then I told her to turn the steering wheel sightly and sure enough she was then able to turn the key and start with no problem.

This is the only time this has happened - has this happened to anyone else out there?

I'm going in for the first "free" oil change in a month at the dealer so I will definitely talk to them about this.
