Smile 03 Prius: 1 kW inverter, 13.75 VDC @ 75 A

Hi folks,

I've been able to test my 03 Prius and found it will drive a 1 kW load on the 12 V DC-DC converter very nicely. I'm running an endurance test and have some other things to add. But right now, it looks to be a very nice, 1 kW, gas powered, UPS.

ps. Can someone send me a note on how to get this dang 'signature' to work?

I tried to do it for you, but with no results. You don't need the "www" but that does not seem to be the problem.

It looks like a 2 step process where you need a line ending in png and another ending in html. I think you need to do the signature part yourself....Sorry I'm not more help.

you need to surround the link in image tags that look like [img] and then one with the slash (/) before img at then end of the link so that it knows to parse it as an image and not just a click link.

I don't understand why this isn't a standard feature. It's redundant to install a power inverter in a system which already has AC power.

If it becomes a popular option (like folks start selling 'kits'), it might become a standard feature.

Hi folks,

Just finished the updates to our PriUPS page:

- 1 kW load operated for 16.5 hours, no problems
- fuel burn 0.25 gal/hr (same as Honda EU2000i at 1 kW load)
- implementation details

Overall, we're pretty happy:
