Default 2002 Prius navigation???

I bought a 2002 Prius in Sept. 2004 from a dealer. I use it to commute from Montville CT to NYC two or three times a week (250 miles r.t.). I have all of these buttons regarding navigation on the right side of the radio. When I press any of them it says outside system not engaged. When I asked the dealer, he said that he wasn't aware of what I needed to do or if I could make the system available. Is it like onstar? Is it a dvd activated system like the one in the Chrysler 300? Does anyone know?

We have the 2001, and the buttons are there too, but AFIK the system is a factory installed option, and wasn't even an option in 2001 (at least in Canada) but it was for the 2002.

I don't think it's activateable via anything simple, it's probably the whole navigation unit that needs installing, and possibly even the wiring to it since it was a factory-only option.

Here another 2001 driver w/o the gps nav. I don't know the Toyota part numbers, but there are several needed. Possibly a dealer would sell those parts. Or available from somebody who parts out wrecked vehicles. My favorite among those is

www.ozgrl.com

As schwa said it was available as an option (which is why we have those useless buttons) so I imagine it's plug and play.

Thanks for the info. It seems like I probably can live without it.
