I just got my canvasworks heatshield for my 2004 Prius. (This is the silver thing that goes behind your windshield to block the sun). The company has templates for all sorts of vehicles, including the 2004 Prius. It's a great fit; perfectly covers the windshield. I highly recommend this product. I bought it for $29.95 from their website (www.canvasworks.com), but I hear you can get it cheaper elsewhere.

Hi Jeanne:

___How is the shields setup after you park, take down before you drive off again, and its storage? I am going to need something in another month or two for the Insight myself yet haven’t done much research. I am contemplating tinting as the first option but I like to have as clear view of the road as I can given I travel ~ 1/2 of the time when it is dark out either before the sun comes up or after it sets …

___Thanks in advance for any more information that you can provide.

PS: I just saw that you posted your Prius’ data into the real mileage database … Got to love Hybrid’s in that regard

___Good Luck

Wayne,

The heatshield comes as a big silver roll with a piece of velcro attached to keep the roll tight. The one disadvantage of the shield fitting your windshield perfectly is that it is _very_ big. So, unrolling the shield and fitting it takes a little coordination -- takes me about 30 seconds. Rolling it back up has the same coordination needs -- I'm developing a skill on that.

As far as tinting goes, I have tinting on the passenger windows and back hatchback window. To my understanding, tinting the windshield is illegal, at least in Colorado.

One question -- I notice that you cite 80 lmpg -- what's the definition of "lmpg"? Thanks!

Jeanne

Hi Jeanne:

___Thanks for the real world implementation … I think I will look into this after all. When you said you can find them cheaper, do you have any hints in that regard as well?

___Tinting here in Illinois is limited to the rear passenger’s (the Insight lacks that of course ) and rear window in its entirety to any level. The driver and passenger fronts and the windscreen cannot be touched other then a 6” band on the windscreen. With that, I am thinking of adding Lumar 30% Heat Rejecting to the Insight’s small rears, hatch, lower hatch, and a 6” visor band. I might consider 50% to the driver and passenger side windows as I live on the IL./WI. border and can have it installed in WI. hopefully??? The windscreen’s main view will need to be left stock but I might be able to get by with the Canvas shield you are using as it sounds like a very sound alternative …

___lmpg = lifetime miles per gallon

___Good Luck

Hi Stevo12886:

___Do you mean bad like “cool” bad or bad like “Oh my god that looks so stupid” bad? If it is the latter, I am definitely skipping it

Hi Stevo12886:

___There will be no band on the windscreen then.

___I have never had a car tinted in my life but pack longevity even here in Northern IL. is making me think it is the smart thing to do …

Ah! We can post images here? This is news to me!

I thought I had disabled all image posting except for in the Files section. Hm... do I need to rethink this?
