Default Crazy Gas Mileage

I have been getting exactly 45 mpg from my 2004 Prius every 10K miles for the past 35K miles, summer and winter. On my birthday, Sept 29th, my stepson gave me an electronic tire pressure gauge. I checked all my tires, and they were all around 30 psi, so I increased them all to 36 psi. Now, for the last 4 tanks, I am getting 57 mpg!!! Same roads, but A/C off and windows open.

I suspect that the gauge reads low, but the ride is still very comfy and grippy, so I plan to leave it at 36 on that gauge.

FE Tip 1 : Don't speed
FE Tip 2 : check tire pressure, keep it high

I bet that gift turns out to be lot bigger than you thought it was when you got it!

I had a similar experience int the last month, but not quite as dramatic (46 -> 51 by going from 36/34 psi to 42/40 psi, but I'll wait for more data to see how it averages out). The beauty of this is that it improves MPG at all speeds.
