In the "Driving for Mileage:"
Using "N" during the warm-up phase reduces the fuel consumption by half compared to warm-up engine idling. Once the engine is turned off, the car must be stopped and in "P" to restart (a very unsafe practice in traffic.)
Using "N" inhibits engine stopping, which is a major fuel savings at speeds below 42 mph in traffic.
