Default MPG read out versus manual calc

I have had my 2006 Prius since last may. I got it with 5 miles on it, it now has over 11,000 thanks to a trip across the country and back. The car did great, though I did have to replace one tire due to shrapnel in the sidewall which apparently could not be plugged. It was often quite hot, the highest the computer said was 111. The AC did fine.

I am very happy with the car and thanks for all of the good advice I got on this forum.

One question: There is usually significant variation between the MPG on the computer read out and what I calculate by dividing the miles driven since the last fill-up and by the gallons for the new fill-up. Usually the computer read out is 1-2 mpg high, though it has been as much as a 7 mpg swing. Has anyone else noticed this?

Yes the Prius has a gas tank that is a bladder more than a tank and doesnt play well with topping off and testing. The computer uses a fuel meter so it does a good job.
