Default Next-gen Prius

http://www.motorauthority.com/news/c...ept-at-geneva/

I hav the feeling this teaser image is actually a concept car for the new Toyota Prius. The rear looks like a futuristic take on the current model..

Anyone agree?

Either way, Geneva motor show should be very interesting for hybrid fans.

I think these are much more likely closer to the gen prius. Links were shamelessly stolen from PC. If anybody can read Japanese I'd be interested in what the text says.

I think we are seeing a comparison of two vehicles with the one on the left being much smaller:

3900 vs. 4435 mm (length?)
1695 vs. 1745 mm
1530 vs. 1490 mm
2500 vs 2700 (mass or weight?)
3 cylinder, single overhead CAM vs 4 cylinder, dual overhead CAM
995 vs 1496 cc
power-to-weight ratio?
70 ps (hp) @ 5,700 rpm vs 77 ps (hp) @ 5,000 rpm
9.4 Nm @ 4,800 rpm vs 11.7 Nm @ 4,200 rpm -- peak torque
180V vs. 215 V (?)

Just my educated guess.

In the process of learning the workings of Prius, Bob seems to have grasped much of Japanese too .. kudos to you, Bob!!

Any word on when the Next-gen Prius will be on the showroom floors. I want to start planing to get one. A phev would not get much more MPG than these.

I'm not going to hold my breath on the 94 mpg thing. That's quite a jump in efficiency unless they are quoting a city figure with a substantially improved battery pack.

Hello from Fuji in Japan

I hate to put a damper on expectations but mpg is for the 10-15 mode Japanese test method. Current Prius gets 35.5km/L so the improvement is not great.

The Guardian (UK paper) in March 2006 quoted a Mr. Abe as saying that it would have a 9mile all electric range using a Li battery compared to current less than 2mile using NiMH battery. I presume this means it will also be PHEV?

The text is a comparison with a Honda Hybrid Fit, although when I talked to a Honda dealer in Sept. 2006 before buying my original Prius(NHW10), he seemed to think the introduction of the Fit Hybrid was unlikely. Honda looks to be going with a dedicated Hybrid model to compete with Prius.

Best of Luck
Andrew
