Default Re: Ouch! Car & Driver Video

ok, ok, so he was stoned, too.... i sent the editors of C/D the link to this page with very little comment. the feedback to them from these quotes should say it all. Larry Webster could barely even be accused of "****ing with faint praise." it was more like boredom and disinterest... like, "why did they make me talk about this car when i really get the hots over bashing around the countryside in a new Porsche..?"

near the bottom of my page at http://www.plusaf.com/prius/prius.htm , you can see some "Snippets from Car and Driver Magazine...." i pruned out of the mag some time back. each to their own opinion, as unfounded in reality as it may be...

actually, let me add that Pat Bedard's article is actually one of the best descriptions of how the Prius does what it does, and why it does it so well.

Basically, the car is a computer on wheels, designed to do one thing: operate the gas engine at its most efficient operating point, no matter what you're doing with the gas pedal.

once i read that, it was much easier to explain to people how the car works and why you shouldn't [can't] really argue with how or why it does what it does. want to go faster? step on the right pedal. want to slow down? step on the left pedal [yeah, yeah, i know about regen, too...].

but if you don't have them strapped down in the back seat, if you want to see your dogs sail through the car and smoosh up against the dashboard, slam on the brakes some time.....

been there, done that. never again.

lol i was watching that video of the toyota truck getting abused from plusaf's site and i got to say AMAZING ENGINEERING! try putting a ford f150 or dodge crap through the same test and see if it survives!

.

i got around 20 km a liter when i drove a civic 5 spd using advanced hypermiler techniques
and now I drive a salvage nwh20 prius that gets almost to 25 km/l with 195,000 km to date.
