No, you won't notice the MPG difference. My friend installed some amps and a sub into his Prius and he still gets totally reasonable mileage for this area.

No, it will not affect MPG. The stereo, headlights, and anything else on a gas-only that runs off the 12volt runs off the same 12volt on the Prius. It doesn't siphon any juice from the NiMH batteries.

Sorry Ryomatic but ANYTHING that uses energy in your car will ultimatly get that from the internal combustion engine, i.e. from burnt fuel. It may be unnoticable little though, the ICE delivers 10's f kilowatts, an amp wil use a few hundred watts at max, so you don't really notice it.

Lars,

Ahh yes. I guess you are right. The ICE has to recharge the lead acid battery at some point. I assume the Prius is smart enough to keep it topped off?

Pics of my sub project are at webshots.com. Click community, then at the bottom of the page at "find a member" type in finman100. Click on the 'finman100' link that comes up and the pics are under the Prius sub folder.

Adding the sub (the 8" in mine, the 6" ones in hers) has NOT affected MPG at all. Now, weather, speed and terrain have, but not all my add-ons!

The 8" sounds great in the back, but I think I'm going to make some more 6" boxes and get another pair of 6" subs for mid-bass under the seats. I really like having that bass right up front. Plus the amp I have has 2 more channels of sound to give.

.

'04 Seaside Pearl #7. Fumoto oil drain, mudflaps, rear bumper scuff protector & rear warn system, compass mirror, EV mode button, 8" subwoofer in right rear cubby & 6" subs under seats, power lumbar in the front seats, Coastaletech hitch w/ Aspen bike/snowboard rack. iPod2car, 2 amps, Alpine component speakers, and DVD video, solid 47 MPG @ 70000 miles.
