Default Rear Bumper

The rear bumper of the '05 Prius holds up well in a low speed (under 30mph) collision but cost to repair is expensive. (The two small dents cost around $570 to repair. Damage is hardly noticeable if not for the way it reflects light.)

Sorry to hear about the accident. The reality is very few cars out there cost nothing to fix if they are in minor accidents. Most of the time it can be very costly because parts have to be replaced, they cannot be patched up or repaired. Plus, in order to make vehicles light but energy absorbing, the materials underneath bumpers are energy absorbing, but that means that if they absorb any energy (read: accident) they then have to be disposed of and replaced because they have been consumer. This increases repair costs significantly.

that's extremely inexpensive compared to other cars in a bumper safety test with other cars. i have an article somewhere...

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/5961831/

those repair costs are a lot higher than 500$

..and they are at 10 miles per hour speeds
