Noticed at the gym one of the guys I chat with just got a loaded Prius II. I think he will be coming here soon. He thinks he can do much better than 48mpg, but that sounds like respectable FE already. He wants to find out about P&G and seriously thinks we are in a PeakOil situation (I concurr). I think his idea of serious hypermiling is using a moped - really. He believes we need to consider those modes of transport to avoid a pre-industrial society. I don't disagree.

I would love to drive a moped or small motocycle instead of a car. But for better or worse, I value my life more than that. I have been caution ed by many motorcyle drivers that our town is just too unsafe to risk driving in-town on a two wheeled contraption (they only drive theirs on the highway).

To be able to do this, we need to get the monsters off the road and do a better job of training individuals to learn how to share the road with 2-wheelers.
