Default What's Wrong With My Gas?

Ok I've read the other threads on this and still sort of lost. I filled my tank last night after it was on one bar. No idea if it gives a warning when it's at a certain level so I always fill on the last little bar. I have a 2005 if it matters. I filled it up and the nozzle clicked at about 7 gallons. I tried again and it clicked so figured it was full. Is it possible to still have 3.9 gallons in the tank with that one bar left? The bladder can't shrink and expand this much can it?

I've averaged about 8 gallons in when waiting to fill up until it warns me of a low tank. The Prius still notifies you when there's at least 2 gallons left, and for that car it's a good 75-100 miles. No need to freak out!

I suggest waiting as long as you can. The tank is real small.

I got 8 gallons into mine when I filled up with one bar left. Next time I will wait until the last bars starts blinking before I fill up. The blinking bar is the warning that you are low on fuel but you still have more then a gallon left (as I understand it) which means you can do 50 miles on it.

How does it warn you? I want to make sure I don't miss this warning Is it a display on the car near the cruise light, outside temperature freeze light, etc?

Sorry someone answered this as I was replying to the first reply. Thanks.

The last dot on the fuel bar will start blinking. This is the same one as the one you looked at when you decided to fill up. Hope this helps

The MFD (LCD screen) will also display "ADD FUEL" for a few seconds when the last bar starts to blink. It will also do that (and beep) each time you turn the car on and it is low on fuel.

I typically fill up at 2 pips. I don't wait for low fuel warnings. At 2 pips, with a little massaging of the pump handle I typicaly get about 7 or 8 gallons in each time. So long as the gauge fills up to F, I'm happy.

I always let the ADD FUEL warning come up on all my tanks (107 tanks so far over 2 years). When I do that the last bar is blinking and the ADD FUEL warning comes up on the screen, at that point I am pumping in 9+ gallons which is correct because the ADD FUEL warning is triggered to go off with 2 gallons left and its a 11+ gallon tank.
