Default First 900 mile tank

Justin and I have been on quite a roll over our last 4 tanks of unreformulated gas. We have had 3 straight 800 mile tanks and we just got our first 900 mile tank!

In early July we achieved our first of 3 800 tanks, at 812.8 miles at 77.7 mpg. Then in early August we got 827.1 miles at 79.9 mpg. Then in mid August we got 853.5 miles and our first over 80mpg tank at 84.1 mpg.

The we took our trip to La Crosse, driving for mileage. On the trip there I achieved 97.7 mpg. Of course to do me one better, Justin achieved 99.6mpg. (with a high of 101mpg!) Our corrected mpg was 98.5.

I continued to drive to work for 2 more days and we ended up with 920.9 miles on this tank with a 87.2 mpg.

We continue to test our limits.

Wat to go gentleman! Unfortunatley my next tanks will be in the 70s. No 80s for me for a while.

I'm hoping to hit low 70's in my inaugural tank for my new car that's being picked up tomorrow (Wednesday) with normal driving, cold short trips to school and back, and softer non LRR tires installed on the car; not to mention the car has Chicago gas in the tank. The 2000 citrus yellow 5 speed Insight with only 52,000 miles on it will be a challenge for me due to my short driving route, and stop and go traffic more suited to the Prius.

This will intensify the mileage competition within our household of Insight v. Prius v. Insight! So in the coming weeks expect to see another Insight in the database with unimpressive initial numbers, but just wait for them to climb once i get in the groove. Plus, we'll be bringing it to the gathering on the 17th.

Hi Bradlee:

___Congratulations again! I have been watching your tanks improve month over month and not only have you and Justin pushed her to a level you may not have thought possible just 6 months ago, you are still climbing and I do not see that you have peaked yet either! Although our hypermiling season is coming to an end, your technique modifications can and should still be used as we approach our upper Midwest colder temps. Your overall FE will fall but you will see higher lows then you have in the past doing exactly what you are doing now. Next spring, it’s your turn to “Take the Gloves Off” and that elusive 950 and then 1,000 mile tank will be at hand if you do not hit one of those 2 milestones this fall

___Justin, what is this about you getting a Citrus Insight? Very nice! I can just imagine what your dinner conversations have been like these past few weeks … And I bet mom has had just about enough ...

___Good Luck to the 3 of you!

This could get really confusing.

2 Justins, who own 2000 citrus yellow insights in Wisconsin?!?

Thank god I moved out of Pewaukee a year ago!

You'll definitely be able to tell the difference though when you see the mileages though I'm working on my first 70MPG tank right now and it's my 15th tank in this car.

I just don't know how you guys do it.

Congratulations! I'm still working on getting my first 900 miler - don't think I'll get there this year as the rain will be starting soon. Maybe next year when the '04 is better broken in. It's great to see you guys continuing to improve.
