Default New IMA

At 84,000 miles the IMA battery pack failed utterly. So, two weeks ago I scheduled a visit to my Honda dealer. I later called in the OBD codes so they would know what was wrong. They rescheduled the appointment to allow for parts delivery based upon the codes (P1447, P1449).

I took the car in on Thursday, 12/21 and picked up my Accord loaner. This afternoon, 12/22 I returned and picked the Insight up with a new battery pack, battery condition monitor, and motor control module. Total price, $5,655.66 plus $167.20 labor -- all paid by Honda, no questions asked. The dealer apologized for not washing the car (it was raining), but gave me a rain-check.

Can't say enough good about Roush Honda.

During the weeks without IMA, fuel use increased by about 15%.

ManyMPG,

Mine went out at 94,000 miles, but nine days later it was fixed at a cost of $6,500 - I paid only $450. Recals were easy to do with the OEM batteries and the original software. Now I almost have to deliberately force a recal - hope that is your experience these days.

My IMA went out this summer at around 72,000 or so. Took dealer a week to get the parts, no charge. I told them what was wrong with the car but they said to bring it in (BTW, they do know I come from a local automotive family who does all their competitive business aka...RICE Racers aka Tuners....and still wanted me to come in, didn't trust me - if I was that dishonest I would of fried the IMA a long time ago and got the replacement that way) Mileage went down, but my terrain may not be the same as yours, gradual hills that rely on the ASST or its all engine OR lug down to doing 45 in a 60mph zone with about 45 cars behind me. 2 lane road.

(Chuck, I'm in town again this year for Christmas, didn't drive Wazabi this time )

Hi, Rigger.

My car seems to be a bit down on mileage, too. But, it has been colder, so more time is needed. The mileage bar seems to swing more widely than before. But, I could have become conditioned to bad batteries.

I just put my preheated air rig on for the winter, so we'll see what happens over the next week or so.

Hi Rigger.

I'll close this thread with a final observation that mileage seems about the same. The new IMA is working just like the old one when it was new.

Is it a lot harder to recal?

I hope so.
