Hi Scottinmt:

___If I could find a reasonably low mileage, good condition, year old HCH w/ a stick for $10,500, I would buy another hybrid too! Nice price that you found but I don’t think your deal is available to most nowadays given fuel is up over $2.00 per in most parts of the country nowadays and hybrid’s of whichever type seem to have appreciated with that fuel cost rise. I only took a $305 depreciation hit on my 00 Insight after 1.5 years and 37.2 K miles because of that fuel cost rise in fact!

___Good Luck

1: very cool car. sleek looks, high tech, different from everything else out there.

2: $$$!!! I have been commuting from Williamsburg to NASA in Hampton in my '88 Jeep Grand Wagoneer for 7 years. 12 mpg was getting kinda old. up to 10 bux a day now. was 4 when i started. love my Jeep, but it has been retired to boat-pulling duty, and other heavy hauling. 1300 lbs of cement blocks comes to mind! Besides, the 170 bux i save in gas per month pays for the loan on the Insight, and a tank of gas too! in 3 years i end up with a free car!!! btw, it was bought slightly wrecked, from a friend.

Ten years ago I swore that I wouldn't buy a new car until one came out that would get 100mpg! I wasn't able to keep that promise, but when the Insights first came out it was very interesting. I finally was in the market for a commuting car last year and was really enthused by the numbers posted for hypermiling with the Insights. I like the technology and it gives me a whole new challenge to keep me occupied on my commute!

I bought my hybrid out of necessity.

As I was merging from I635 to I35W in Dallas on Sept 7, 2000, a distracted driver rear-ended someone that in turn ramed my tailpipe. That impact ruputed an oil seal that became apparent - and fatal for my 1988 CRX HF with nearly 250,000 miles. While I did consider a Civic, my heart was really for an Insight because it was by far the closest thing to the CRX. The clincher was the good acceleration on the test drive.

We purchased our Hybrids for so many reasons:

1. We finally can put our money where our mouths are - preaching about oil dependence and wanting a greener earth for our son to grow up on. Excessive fuel consumption and bad driving habits are our pet peeve.

2. The pollution reduction factor

3. Fuel savings factor.

4. Technology. If half of this technology was applied to the regular cars out there, we would probably see more awareness.

5. We've always had cars that were a little "different" and have never wanted to be a part of the cookie cutter crowd. We had matching Pontiac Azteks when they first came out, then we bought matching Scions (XA & XB) and now finally our 01 Insight and 05 Prius.

6. These cars were cheap enough that we could buy both outright without car payments.

7. No other cars on the market met our requirements for the above.

#1 less negative eco impact, i guess i was little naive about it though this being my first car and i a new driver, when i was about to leave the dealership i wanted to start it up but the salesman told me not to "don't run it in an enclosed space with people around' and i was kinda of thinking hey i am paying 5.9%interest while regular Civic buyers only pay 1.9% and i only make $28k/year i am sacrificing a huge part of my income in part because i thought i should be able to start up the car and say 'Oh ye astmatics gather round inhale deep and be cured.
#2 energy security-oil is imported from nations not too keen on america or it's interets plus that long distance from source to us using it is energy intensive itself.
