Default 0 MPG while driving... for a while

Happened in the past days but I tought I wasent paying attention...

Once in a while, not often, while coasting... 61 miles per hour, slightly downhill, not in EV mode, but with the MPG at 100%, no assist maybe a dash of recharge....

the MPG goes to 0.... stays so few seconds, then back to normal...

anyone can explain this? i doubt that the car had a suddent consumption, becaus actually nothing happened... just the 100 > 0 then back to 100 (or so)

any ideas?

I have seen a few posts on this and have seen it happen myself. I will search the threads some more, but recall all the Honda "experts" at the dealers and at Honda customer service (800-999-1009) saying it was a periodic "recalibration" and was normal.

Mine did this just the other day. It went back to normal and and worked ever since. I am in computers and know that if you can't get something to repeat reliably, you'll have a hard time getting it fixed. Especially, if it's rare. I am monitoring and will report back to my dealer if it start happening often.

It IS the mpg meter recalibrating itself. It happens every now and then. Its in the owner's manual. Not to fret, your car is fine.

Great post. My HCHII just started doing the same last week. Usually coasting down hill, no EV etc. DIC MPG seems to be getting closer to my actual calculated MPG. I'm only on my fifth tank, each tank seems more accurate.

This wasn't a stupid question. I can repeat this "MPG gauge bug" at will on a certain hill on the way home from work. I have owned an 04 HCH, and trust me, this is a BUG in the 06 HCH. But, I guess this is one of those "first redesigned year" glitches that is to be expected. There will probably be a software update in a few months to correct it.

Mine has done the same. I've also notice the electric assist will turn off and the brakes do not charge the battery during this "calibration". It's almost as if the car is cold for a second and returns to normal.

FOr waht it is worth...mine dropped to zero and stayed there for about 15 seconds today, while I as coasting and it should have been reading 100+. Interestingly, the Average MPG next to the trip odometer did increase, so I know that remains accurate even when the instant MPG drops out...
