Default Re: 2006 Tax Form?

I just finished my taxes last night using TurboTax and found the AMT had hammered my Hybrid rebate on the 06 Civic Hybrid down from the $2100. to only $1450.00.

Where do I go to understand the complexities of AMT in order to get the entire amount of the credit. My limited understanding of AMT is to capture taxes lost to an individual having too many deductions.

When I look at form 6251 (Alternative Minimum tax- individuals) it seems that income is ADDED ( I guess more accurately, deductions are removed) back to my adjusted gross income and taxes due are calculated on that new and higher number. Bastards!

Help....
